Yeti SB95 Review

DSC01063

Yeti freaks have been clamoring for this bike for the last couple of years...but I was not among them. For full disclosure, I railed against the 29r’s, as many in the shop will remember, calling them “Fad Wagons” and “Clown Bikes”. I had ridden a number of brands full suspension 29r’s, and they only confirmed my feelings about the big wheels, great on road bikes and hard tails, but that’s it.

I should have know that when Yeti finally rolled out a “Dual Suspension Wagon Wheel Rig” they would wait until it could be done right--and they did! This bike has made me eat my words about 29r’s. This is simply the best dual suspension bike I’ve ever been on (no qualifiers here) Period!

What makes this bike so good? Well first of all, it’s a Yeti through and through. When you first climb on board there is no doubt you are on a Yeti. Instantly the bike feels familiar, even with the big wheels. The bike uses a slightly slacker head angle, 69.5 degrees with 120mm fork, which makes the bike super confident through the technical sections and down hill.

For stability Yeti has maintained it’s normal “Murders’ Row” of standard features:

  • Inset Tapered Head Tube
  • 15mm Through Axle Fork
  • 12mm x 142mm Rear Axle
  • Oversized Pivots
  • Fully Sealed Bearings

That all translates to a bike that is super stiff in the corners, no flex and no whip, just rails corners the way a Yeti should.

This bike did everything well. It is an extremely efficient climber, thanks to the chain stay length of 443mm and the Switch Technology suspension (see more on our Yeti page about the suspension design). In the rough stuff the bike really shines, again thanks to the lateral stiffness and Switch Technology,

The only down side to this rig is you have to wait to get one, but I promise its worth the wait! If you want a bike that is:

  • Extremely efficient climber
  • Crisp pedaling in rough stuff
  • Firm in mid stroke for cornering
  • Laterally stiff
  • Fun and fast descending

...then SB-95 is for you. This bike will make you a better rider. If you want to go faster, crash less, and have more fun, you want a SB-95. Thats right folks the circus is in town to stay..step right up and get your Clown Bike! The Yeti SB-95--you gotta have one!
